"Our hotels are a hand-picked selection, and all offer something slightly unique"

Over the week we'll cycle some 300 kilometres, and our distances vary considerably from day to day.  The Rioja region can best be described as a broad plain flanked to the north and the south by ranges of mountains.

Much of our week will be spent exploring unique and fascinating villages, many of them strategically sited on hilltops. We will also cross the Sierra de Cantabria via a pass beside the peak known as 'Leon Dormido' The Sleeping Lion.

Our hotels are a hand-picked selection, they vary between 2,3 and 4 star rated and all offer something slightly unique. One is a former palace, one a 15th century Augustinian monastery and yet another a refurbished Manor House.

The restaurants are likewise guaranteed to delight, from the Rincon del Vino, with its endless list of amazing, affordable wines, to the 'Sidreria Armendariz' where we dine in an ancient cellar with vaulted ceilings and an endless supply of cider on tap!

To truly get to know La Rioja you have to meet the people who make the wine! During the week we'll visit a number of friendly bodegas and sample some of their fine products.

Over the years we have forged some exceptional friendships with these hard-working experts and the warmth of their hospitality never fails to delight. The vineyards range in size from modest family businesses to the mighty Luis CaƱas where the yearly output exceeds two million bottles.
